Industrial Warehouse Double Deep Pallet Rack Systems for High Density Storage

Double deep pallet rack system is a variation of standard selective pallet rack system. Compared with selective pallet rack, double deep pallet rack creates more storing space but leaves less selectivity for stored cargoes. It is composed of two rows of selective pallet racks set up back to back, reducing aisles to increase storage density.

Thus, not all pallets are directly accessible and a special forklift is required to reach the second pallet. Therefore, this system is particularly suitable for warehouses utilizing LIFO(last in, first out) inventory rotation direction with high volume cargoes but low variety.

Advantages of Double Deep Pallet Rack System:

• High density storage: The storage density in double deep pallet rack system is relatively high since pallets are stored at two depth and aisles are reduced by half compared to standard selective pallet rack system.

• Fair selectivity: Front pallets are of 100% selectivity but the second pallets are not accessible until the front pallets are moved. Although not all pallets can get immediate access, the general selectivity is much greater than other high density storage systems.

• Flexible Configuration: Similar to selective pallet rack, double deep pallet rack can be adjusted to different heights, depths, bay lengths and capacities according to customers’ requirements.

• Cost effective: The structure of double deep pallet rack is much simpler than other high-density pallet racks and there is no special component on the rack, so it is a cost-effective high-density storage system.

• Easy installation: With simple structure, the assembly and disassembly process and replacement of components are quick and simple.

• Improved space utilization rate: The system make good use of available space by reducing the number of aisles, and the space utilization rate is up to 80%-90%.

Tips for Double Deep Pallet Rack System:

• The system conforms to LIFO inventory rotation direction, which means the last deposited pallet will be the first one to pick up. Besides, its selectivity is 50% and half of cargoes on the racks are not directly accessible. Therefore, double deep pallet rack system is best suited for warehouse in which cargoes are not highly perishable and do not require FIFO inventory rotation, in addition, every SKU has several pallets of inventory.

• In order to access the second pallet on the deep bay, a special forklift equipped with a telescopic fork or a pantograph mechanism is necessary in your facility if the double deep pallet rack system is applied.

• Double deep pallet rack is a compromise between selective pallet rack and other high-density pallet rack. By storing goods at two pallets deep, higher storage density can be achieved, while operators are still able to access stock relatively easily and quickly.
